Nestled within this historic site is Stayokay Eindhoven, housed in the iconic Klokgebouw, a structure that once served as the Philite factory.
In the heart of Eindhoven lies the former Philips plant, known as "Strijp-S", just a 5-minute jaunt from the city center.
Historic Roots: The Klokgebouw
Nestled within the bustling city of Eindhoven lies the historic Klokgebouw, once the beating heart of Philips' industrial empire. Designed by architect A. Broekert and completed in 1928, this monumental structure served as the Philite factory, producing the essential bakelite for Philips products. With its towering presence and iconic clock tower adorned with the Philips insignia, the Klokgebouw became a symbol of industrial prowess in the region.
Evolution and Renovation
Over the years, the Klokgebouw has undergone a remarkable transformation. From its industrial origins, it has transitioned into a national monument, housing a diverse community of over 100 creative entrepreneurs. Under the ownership of Eindhoven's housing corporation Trudo, the building has been meticulously renovated, blending its historic charm with modern amenities. Sustainable initiatives, such as the innovative Sanergy system for heating and cooling, underscore its commitment to environmental stewardship.
Recognition and Legacy
In recognition of its cultural significance, the Klokgebouw was nominated for Brabant's Cultural Prize in 2010, cementing its status as a cherished landmark in the region.
Blue Collar Hotel
In 2014 within the historic Klokgebouw, the Blue Collar Hotel opened, paying homage to the industrious spirit of its surroundings. The name "Blue Collar" is a nod to the workers who toiled within these walls, their blue collars a symbol of hard work and dedication. The hotel maintained an authentic ambiance, preserving elements of its industrial past.
A New Chapter: Stayokay Integration
After ten years, the Blue Collar Hotel was taken over by Stayokay, the Netherlands' largest hostel chain. Despite this transition, the ho(s)tel retains its distinctive character, welcoming guests with its robust design and warm hospitality. As Stayokay integrates its operations, visitors can expect continued service at the Blue Collar Café and Blue Collar Theater, preserving the essence of this iconic establishment.
Preserving Tradition
As the transformation unfolds, Stayokay remains committed to preserving its heritage. Meetings, parties, and overnight stays will continue to be part of the experience, ensuring that the spirit of the Blue Collar Hotel lives on in the heart of Eindhoven.
