Calmly bobbing around on the water with a picnic basket, isnāt that the very best way to spend a sunny day? Rent a four, six or eight-person boat in Alkmaar and discover the beautiful city of cheese and its surroundings from the water. You donāt need a sailing license.
Amsterdam may have beautiful canals, but Alkmaar can certainly compete. The best way of exploring the canals in Alkmaar is, of course, from the water in a boat. You can rent one on the Geestersingel. Via the Singel and the stronghold, you can sail right into the historic city centre with its characteristic draw bridges and monumental buildings. Fancy some ice cream? Ring the bell at ice cream parlour de Mient. You can simply stay on the boat. Also a must: City Beach De Kade on the Noorderkade!
Hey, did you know?
When youāre sailing on the Singelgracht, itās impossible to miss the Molen van Piet. This stage mill was built in 1769 and functioned as a corn mill until 1993. Officially, the name of this mill is āMolen De Grootā, but because the Piet family has lived in and managed the mill for four generations, the mill is colloquially called āMolen van Pietā.
