Getting on your bike with a destination in mind is always more fun than cycling for the sake of it. So when the sun’s out, why not head off to De Koehoorn campsite and ice cream farm? Sit on the terrace and watch the sheep, goats and chickens.
It’s only a 20-minute cycle ride from Stayokay Domburg to Meliskerke, a small village with a population of just under 1500 set in the Walcheren countryside. This tiny village boasts ten shops, including a butcher’s, a baker’s, a bookstore, a florist’s and a supermarket. To the east of Meliskerke, we find De Koehoorn where you can enjoy delicious farmhouse ice cream from April to the end of October and buy groceries from the farm shop. There are trampolines, go-karts and pedal tractors on the campsite.
Hey, did you know?
The Walcheren village of Meliskerke sprung to fame thanks to Dorsvloer vol confetti a book by Franca Treur, who was raised in the nearby countryside. In her book, she describes life as girl growing up as part of a strongly religious family in 1990’s Zeeland.
