This is one of the facts you’ll learn if you take a walk around the village with an audio app.
“The pride of Egmond is the lighthouse, which has towered over the village since 1841.”
The free izi.TRAVEL audio tour starts at the statue of Jaepie-Jaepie, who was one of the rowing crew on the Egmond lifeboat. Between 1860 and 1904 he and his fellow rowers, managed to bring 170 shipwreck victims safely back to dry land. Another sight worth seeing is the lighthouse that has been a defining feature and source of local pride since being built in 1841. During the tour, you’ll discover why it was named after Jan van Speijk.
