Fun in the Jekerkwartier

There’s a reason the Jekerkwartier is compared to the Quartier Latin in Paris.

This historic quarter has an un-Dutch feel thanks to its charming streets, historic buildings and squares, and the mix of authentic and hip boutiques and culinary specialty shops.

In the Jekerkwartier, you can find many old monuments, such as the Medieval city wall, and plenty of boutiques, galleries and hip concept stores.

Walking through the historic Jekerkwartier is an absolute must when you’re in Maastricht. Here, you can find many monuments, including the Medieval city wall. You can climb the wall that protected Maastricht centuries ago at a few spots. The quarter is also brimming with boutiques, galleries and hip concept stores, such as Le Marais Deux & Koffie and Lena Berens in the Maastricther Heidenstraat. Together with the Sint Pieterstraat, this is one of the nicest streets in the quarter.

Hey, did you know?

At the foot of the old city wall, behind Café de Pieter, lies Sint Hilariusstraat; the narrowest street of the city. Have a delicious beer in the café or out on the patio.
