Deltapark Neeltje Jans lies at the foot of the world’s biggest flood barrier which was constructed after the North Sea Flood of 1953. In a poignant expo you can experience how devastating the power of the water was during the disaster, how Zeeland recovered in its wake and how the job of building the Delta Works proceeded. Once you’ve learned about this, you can go and watch a sea lion and seal shows or let the children splash around in the water playground.

During the first half of the 20^th century the Delta was home to large numbers of seals. However, their numbers gradually declined due to hunting, pollution and the Delta Works. Their numbers have now increased again thanks to environmental measures and the fact that work in the Delta area has ceased. Neeltje Jans is home to four playful seals.
