Did you know that 600 windmills used to operate at any one time in the Zaan region? This is a clear indication that the Zaanse Schans was a hive of activity. It was where foodstuffs such as cocoa, rice and oil were produced and where household names such as Bruynzeel and Forbo opened branches. The museum covers the most significant boom periods.
