The only way is up!

If you’re heading off to Utrecht, there’s one sight you definitely mustn’t miss: the 112-metre-tall Dom Tower.

If you don’t have a fear of heights, then climb the 465 steps to the top for spectacular views of the city.

The Dom Tower is the pride of Utrecht. Its construction started in 1321, but lack of money postponed completion until 1382. This was not the only misfortune to befall the Dom Church. Half-way up the Dom Tower, at a height of 49 metres, there are 14 bells, all named individually. The heaviest bell is called Salvator and weighs 8000 kg. Unusually, the bells are still rung by hand. This task is performed by the Utrecht Bellringers Guild.
