Plane Wrecks and Bombs

Around Amsterdam are 42 fortresses that were once part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam.

One of these is Fort bij Veldhuis that you can visit near the Luchtoorlogmuseum (Air War Museum). The collection consists of salvaged plane wrecks and bombs from World War II.

At Fort bij Veldhuis, you can admire salvaged plane wrecks and bombs from World War Ii in the Luchtoorlogmuseum.

The Luchtoorlogmuseum is managed by the Aircraft Recovery Group 1940-1945 foundation. This foundation researches the air war above Dutch territory during World War II on a voluntary basis. By means of archives, personal interviews with survivors and eyewitnesses of the plane crashes, they try to reconstruct the event. This is depicted in the fortress through various airplane components, personal stories, drawings and articles.

Hey, did you know?

A radio room has been designed in the casemates of Fort bij Veldhuis. Here, the old radio equipment helps you discover how planes communicated with each other during World War II.
