Maastricht from the Maas

Have all those passing ships on the Maas river made you excited to head out onto the water as well?

At the Maaspromenade, you can board a boat for a trip on the water. From a short boat trip on the Maas river to a complete day trip to the Belgian Liège.

Take an impressive boat trip along the historic highlights of the city or sail across the border to the Belgian Liège.

Okay, a boat trip might sound like a tourist attraction, but sailing the Maas river is truly impressive. At Rederij Stiphout, you can choose from various boat trips. For instance, sail underneath the historic Sint Servaas bridge, pass the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwebasiliek and see part of the first wall of Maastricht from 1229 as well as the famous Bonnefantenmuseum during a one-hour trip on the Maas river. You can also combine this boat trip with a visit to the limestone caves in the Sint-Pietersberg.

Hey, did you know?

The Maas river is partly a border river. Nearby Eijsden, the Maas reaches the Netherlands and it forms the border between the Belgian province of Liège and the Dutch province of Limburg until just below Maastricht. Above the city, the river meanders above the border for another 47 kilometres.
